Why should I have my wedding at your venue?

Nothing compares to the breathtaking surrounds of our award winning, lush tropical gardens and the traditional Queenslander style setting offered here at the Cairns Colonial Club. Our tropical rainforest gardens and choice of three lagoon-style pools, create numerous photo opportunities, and our variety of accommodation rooms are perfect for wedding night accommodation for you and your guests.


What are the benefits of having my wedding at a hotel?

Whether you’re hosting the closest of friends and family, or you’re going all out with hundreds of guests, chances are good that a hotel wedding venue can suit your needs. With over 25 years of experience, Cairns Colonial Club can accommodate a wide range of events – and that includes large or small weddings. Whether a private room for a party of 10 in our stand-alone Conference Centre, a Garden Ceremony in our Gazebo or a blowout bash in our Lockhart grand ballroom, you’ll have many venues under one roof to consider.

What days can I have my wedding at CCCR?

Here at Colonial Club we are able to organise your wedding any day you wish. Although there are seven days to choose from, it comes as no surprise that Saturday is by far the most popular day Aussie couples choose to get married. The most popular months to get married are June, August, September, and October and it’s no surprise why – the weather is absolutely beautiful in early winter and spring.


Do you decorate the venue/set up?

Your wedding package includes tables, chairs, chair covers, tablecloths and napkins, crockery, cutlery and glassware. It is up to you to organise your own table centrepieces and other table or room decorations. We can put you in touch with several local companies who specialise in theming and decorating weddings if you prefer to leave all that to someone else on the day. You may drop off items within three business days prior to your event without a storage handling fee.


Do I have to pay a deposit?

A contract will be sent outlining the date, time, deposits, and other details. You will have two weeks to review and return a signed copy of the contract along with your initial deposit. A deposit schedule will be sent to you with your contract with payments broken down over several months until the final payment. The final payment will be due 10 business days prior and will include all applicable taxes and service charges


How much in advance should I book the date?

With Saturdays being the most popular day to get married, and considering there are only 52 weekends in a year, it doesn’t leave much leeway with many couples vying for the same dates. We suggest booking 12 to 18 months ahead especially if you are looking at the peak months from June – October. If you can be more flexible, and your preferred date is booked, consider an off-peak night of Friday or Sunday which are more likely to be available if the Saturday is not.

Where will the ceremony be held and what happens if it rains?

Cairns Colonial Club has hosted many wedding ceremonies, comfortably accommodating up to 200 guests in our tropical rainforest gardens. A romantic gazebo creates a beautiful backdrop for exchanging your wedding vows. The time between the ceremony and reception can be spent enjoying pre-dinner drinks and canapes on our wide timber verandas. In the event of wet weather, your ceremony can be moved indoors with 24 hours’ notice.


Can I have my reception on site?

Absolutely! There is a reduced ceremony price of $350.00 if you also book your reception with us. Our Lockhart Ballroom combines splendour with modern style, making a unique, memorable and spacious setting for your Wedding Reception of up to 200 guests. With chandeliers swaying above and surrounding french doors overlooking the rainforest gardens, this really is the most stunning reception venue. For smaller groups you might consider the more intimate Palmerston Room or even a seated dinner overlooking the tree tops from the Jardines Verandah.


Do you have decorations/chairs or do we provide our own?

Yes, our package includes chairs with white or black lycra chair covers and the client’s choice of coloured band or sash. Alternatively the client may choose a different chair style in which case a surcharge would apply.

How many people will fit at the ceremony?

We can accommodate 200 people standing in the ceremony area surrounding our rainforest gazebo. We also provide 20 white garden chairs within our Ceremony Package. A surcharge applies if additional seating is required.


How many rooms are available to guests to stay at and is there an accommodation discount for my wedding guests?

Cairns Colonial Club has 3 stunning lagoon style swimming pools and 345 modern rooms in a variety of room types and layouts. We are happy to offer a discounted rate for friends and family attending your wedding. We recommend that your guests book at least 30 days in advance to avoid disappointment. Many guests from out of town choose to make a holiday of it and book extra nights so they can spend some time exploring our beautiful region.


We also provide following as a part of our Reception Package:

  • White linen napkins and tablecloths
  • Skirted bridal table, gift table and cake table
  • Printed guest list and personalised floor plan
  • Dance floor and staging (Lockhart Ballroom only)
  • Sound System compatible with Bluetooth for entertainment
  • Microphone and lectern for speeches
  • One night’s accommodation in the Bridal Suite with sparkling wine, chocolates and a late checkout!
  • Full buffet breakfast for the Bride and Groom in the Homestead Restaurant
  • Special accommodation rates for your guests
  • A dedicated Wedding Coordinator to help you every step of the way
  • Exceptional service, exquisite surroundings and delicious food
  • We leave the room and flower decorations to specialised contracted vendors
  • We have a list of vendors that we have worked with in the past, but you are free to organise a decorator yourself if you prefer. Feel free to request more information

Can I Have A Band?

The Lockhart Ballroom has enough space to accommodate a band and a dance floor. It is important to provide your wedding coordinator with specific space requirements and any requests from the band so we can make appropriate arrangements.


Does The Hotel Offer Parking For My Guests?

The Cairns Colonial Club Resort offers free onsite parking to guests attending any event. Your guests may also self-park directly in front of our Conference Centre (accessible from Behan Street).
