5 COOL Things to do in Cairns this Christmas Day

Well it’s officially that time of year again. The holiday season is fast approaching and with it comes that important decision; what to do on Christmas Day. Cairns is one of the top tourist destinations in Australia and with good reason; surrounded by tropical rain forest and with the Great Barrier Reef at our doorstep, there are an abundance of activities to choose from. If you’re lucky enough to be spending Christmas Day with us but are unsure about what to do, then read below for 5 fun activities that are guaranteed to keep you both entertained AND cool on Christmas Day.

1. Explore the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef

Why not spend Christmas Day with Nemo and Dory! Visiting this natural wonder of the world is definitely something to check off your bucket-list. Tours fill up fast though, especially around the holiday season. Only a small number of operators travel on Christmas Day so we recommend booking as soon as possible. 2. Relax and unwind on a tropical island

If snorkelling in crystal clear waters off the white sandy beach of an exotic a tropical island is more your thing, you definitely need to consider a full or half day trip to either Green Island or Fitzroy Island, less than a one hour boat ride from Cairns. Cairns Icon Gets A Facelift

Long before Cairns was considered a bucket-list destination, local developer and visionary Ian Thomas executed his concept to create a unique tourist haven reflecting colonial-style architecture in a tropical setting.

Built in 1985, the Cairns Colonial Club Resort originally comprised of 151 rooms built around a tract of ancient rainforest. This unique concept allowed guests to experience the natural beauty of the region up close and immediately created a buzz with locals, travel agents and international tourists alike.

The resort was such a resounding success that the construction of 129 new rooms quickly followed and in 1992 another 65 high-end rooms were added around the perimeter of the popular Club Pool which sported one of the region’s first swim-up bars.

The bright yellow and green butterfly adorning the tropical logo was widely recognised and the Cairns Colonial Club soon became known across the globe as Tropical North Queensland’s leading leisure resort.
Today, the resort is owned by Good Earth Hotels, a family enterprise based in Singapore. Set amongst 11 acres of award-winning tropical rainforest gardens are 345 spacious accommodation rooms, 3 lagoon-style pools,
